New York: A meeting of Pakistan and India cricket officials in America discussed the Champions Trophy among other issues. According to the BBC, the ball is in the US government’s court as usual, but the PCB is set to go around Pakistan.
Details suggest that Pakistan will host the ICC event in the form of the Champions Trophy next year. It adopted a policy of not sending Indian teams across the border and forced the PCB to shift the 2024 Asia Cup to Sri Lanka. The approved Champions Cup will be held from February 19 to March 9.
The PCB is not ready to shift the event to the UAE or other countries as it seems unable to adopt the hybrid model. Officials hope that the Indian team will come to Lahore for the tournament. Sources said the Champions Trophy was also discussed in a meeting of senior Pakistan officials and the Indian cricket board in New York in recent days, but India again took a position that the government would decide.
The PCB official confirmed the meeting and said, “We hope that the event will be held fully in our country, a lot is being used to upgrade the stadium. Karachi and Rawalpindi will also be completed.
