ISLAMABAD: Coordinator to Prime Minister on Health Dr Mukhtar Bharath visited Federal General Hospital in Chak Shahzad to review ongoing reforms and inspect provision of healthcare services to the patients, said Ministry of Health Spokesperson Sajid Shah.
During his visit of the hospital, Dr Mukhtar emphasized the need of delivering top-notch care, particularly to dengue patients. He inspected both the medical wards and the dedicated dengue ward, insisting that optimal medical services must be guaranteed for those affected by the disease.
Dr Mazhar, Executive Director of the hospital, briefed Dr Mukhtar on the current initiatives and the challenges faced in implementing these reforms. Dr. Mukhtar emphasized the need to draft recommendations aimed at modernizing the hospital facilities, underscoring a comprehensive strategy to ensure quality medical services in the federal hospitals.
The coordinator said delivery of vaccines for dog bites has been streamlined, ensuring that patients receive uninterrupted access. New initiatives have also been introduced to enhance neonatal care, including the training of doctors and nurses in treatment for newborns. Furthermore, the Outpatient Department (OPD) has been computerized, providing patients with medicines on-site, he added.
Dr Mukhtar said in order to support critical care, free medications are now available in emergencies, and 24/7 services for X-rays and laboratory tests have been implemented. To improve accountability, a biometric system has been introduced to ensure the attendance of doctors, nursing staff, and other personnel. Additionally, water filters have been installed throughout the hospital to enhance patient comfort, he added.
In terms of recruitment, Dr Mukhtar assured that all necessary actions would be taken to fill vacant positions for doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff, prioritizing the resolution of ongoing challenges faced by the hospital. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing excellent healthcare facilities, highlighting that modernizing the hospitals is both a mission and an agenda.
Dr Mukhtar commended the ongoing efforts by the ED Federal General Hospital and participated in a tree plantation campaign, reinforcing the importance of environmental sustainability alongside healthcare reforms.
