California: The technology company Google aims to add 110 new languages to its Translate feature.
Google announced in a blog post on Thursday that this latest move is its biggest language expansion to date. Previously, Google Translate supported 133 languages, and the addition will increase the number to 243.
According to Google, the newly added language is spoken by more than 614 million people, about 8% of the world’s population. Some of these languages are spoken by more than 100 million people.
About 25% of the new languages are African. New African languages to be added include Fon, Kikongo, Luo, Ga, Swati, Venda and Wolof.
Google said that the demand to add Cantonese is the highest, but the characters are compatible with Mandarin.
