Illinois: Scientists have developed a new antibiotic that can keep bacteria healthy by destroying harmful bacteria without harming beneficial bacteria.
In a study on mice, this antibiotic was found to be effective against more than 130 bacteria resistant to conventional antibiotics.
Previous studies have shown that common antibiotics can affect gut bacteria, increase the risk of other infections, and cause problems in the stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver and other organs.
Paul Hergenrother, associate professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, said the new antibiotic aims to address the problem of antibiotic resistance and adverse effects on the microbiome.
