Unnecessary use of antibiotics has increased in Pakistan. At the antimicrobial stewardship conference in Karachi, medical experts revealed that 300,000 people die directly and 700,000 suffer medical complications in Pakistan every year.
According to medical experts, antibiotic-resistant bacteria kill 5 million people worldwide every year. Vice Chancellor University of Health Services Professor Dr Shehzad Ali Khan said that there is a need to control the illegal use of antibiotics. The speaker urged people to be careful and not to use medicine without a doctor’s advice.
According to Pakistani and international experts, bacteria that cause pneumonia, diarrhea, typhoid, tuberculosis and blood and lung infections in Pakistan have become resistant to the latest antibiotics. Data from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan shows that antibiotics worth 126 billion rupees will be used in the country in 2023.
