On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Punjab government has imposed a ban on the use of single-use plastic bags.
The Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and Provincial Price Control Magistrate will ensure the implementation of this ban. Environment Secretary Raja Jahangir has said that the use of plastic bags will not be allowed in Punjab from today as single-use plastics are harmful to the environment.
Environment Secretary Raja Jahangir said that non-degradable plastic can pose a threat to human health. Shops will be raided by officials like deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners, and fines will be imposed for using plastic bags.
The environment secretary also said residents should bring cloth bags and containers from their homes for food.
