Karachi: Pakistani actress and model Mahnoor Haidar, popularly known as Apana in the popular drama series Khahi, has revealed that she stopped wearing the burqa because of her parents.
Mahnoor Haidar recently appeared on actor and host Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, where he discussed the challenges he faces while wearing a burqa.
Mahnoor Haidar: “Everyone at my work is religious, but in my house there is no tradition of wearing a burqa. The women in my family do not wear a burqa or cover their head with a dupatta or a chador. However, I started wearing a burqa.
She said: “I was in ninth grade, and when I put on the burqa in front of my father, I thought I was proud. Instead, he laughed and said, ‘What hypocrisy?’ “
“Now I understand my father’s reaction. He wanted me to improve on the inside before making changes on the outside,” he said.
Mahnoor Haidar said she stopped wearing the burqa because her friends laughed at her and her mother disapproved of her wearing it.
“Mother: “Mahnoor, you are strange with us. “When we go out, it’s not like we’re part of a family,” she said.
She also said: “Now I’m free. I’m not afraid of anyone. I wear a burqa when I like, but I don’t cover my head with a dupatta because I don’t want people to say that. I appear on billboards without a dupatta, but with another burqa .”
It may be noted that Dur-e-Fishan Saleem played the role of Zamda and Faisal Qureshi played the role of Chanar Khan in the drama series Khahi.
