Taxila: During a press conference, the patron-in-chief of Shadi Hall and Marquee Union Taxila, Wah, and Hassan Abdal, Malik Azhar Nawaz, President Hamid Naseem Mughal, General Secretary Fakhar Abbas Kazmi, Secretary Information Amar Ali Shah, Malik Kamran Aslam, and others stated that every year, at the start of the wedding season, the government uses the law to force people to opt for simplicity by imposing a one-dish policy, targeting the business of wedding hall owners.
One-dish policy blamed for financial losses to wedding industry
They lamented that the strict one-dish policy is only implemented in Punjab, while other provinces have no such restrictions. They alleged that the Punjab government’s aim is to blackmail wedding hall owners and harass the public.
Wedding hall industry says livelihoods at risk
The officials stated that wedding hall owners in Punjab are already facing difficulties due to various government departments, and the implementation of the one-dish policy is causing significant financial losses to the wedding hall industry.
They pointed out that many sectors are directly or indirectly linked to the wedding hall industry, and hundreds of people are employed in it. Such restrictions are not only affecting these sectors but also putting hundreds of people at risk of unemployment.
Stakeholders urge review of one-dish policy
They emphasized that wedding hall owners pay various taxes to the government, and the current policy is affecting their business, employment, and government tax revenue.
Union demands flexible approach and dialogue
The officials appealed to the government to adopt a flexible policy instead of strict restrictions and demanded that the Punjab government suspend the penalties for violating the one-dish act.
They urged the government to formulate a new policy after consulting with wedding hall owners and stakeholders. They reiterated their commitment to dialogue and cooperation but emphasized that any tyrannical policy or unilateral decision would be unacceptable.
