Former Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp Completely Demolished, Process of Reclaiming State Land Accelerated

Dera Ismail Khan: The former Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp has been completely demolished. The camp had remained vacant for some time following the voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees.

District administration moves to reclaim state land

The step was taken by the district administration to reclaim state land and ensure its proper future utilization.

Demolition carried out under revenue supervision

According to details, under the direct supervision of the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), all buildings, temporary structures and other constructions at Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp were demolished using heavy machinery.

Security arrangements during demolition operation

During the operation, security and administrative personnel remained present on site to prevent any untoward incident.

Phased demolition completed without resistance

The administration stated that the demolition process was carried out in phases and no resistance or obstruction was faced.

Officials cite legal grounds for dismantling the camp

District officials said that Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp was established on government owned land and, following the return of Afghan refugees, its continued existence was neither legally nor administratively justified.

Government land taken back into custody

Consequently, a decision was made to completely dismantle the camp and take the land back into government custody.

One-month deadline issued to vacate government land

Furthermore, the administration has granted a one month deadline to local tribes residing in the area to vacate government land.

Agreement reached with tribal elders

In this regard, a formal agreement has been reached between the local tribal elders and the administration, under which the government land will be fully vacated by January 15, 2026. The agreement also states that any illegal occupation after the stipulated deadline will not be tolerated.

Action against illegal occupation warned

According to district authorities, the government aims to eliminate illegal use of state land and utilize it for projects in the public interest.

The administration has made it clear that legal action will be taken against those who fail to vacate the land within the given timeframe.

Residents welcome demolition, expect development projects

Residents have welcomed the administration’s action of demolishing Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp and expressed hope that the reclaimed land will be used for regional development, public facilities or other welfare projects, providing direct benefits to the people of Dera Ismail Khan.
