Naval chief presides over 55th Bahria University Board of Governors meeting

Islamabad, Jan 12, 2026: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, serving as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Bahria University, chaired the university’s 55th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting at the Bahria University Head Office in Islamabad.

The meeting opened with a comprehensive overview of the university’s academic activities, flagship programmes and long-term strategic direction. Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended Bahria University for its recent achievements, particularly progress in academic standards, research development and the adoption of modern learning practices in response to the demands of the digital era.

During the session, the Board reviewed and approved several academic and institutional initiatives. These included the restructuring of Bahria Business School and the endorsement of an updated policy for Psychological Service Centers aimed at improving student welfare and community wellbeing. Amendments to the university’s statutes and academic regulations were also approved.

Members of the Board were briefed on ongoing strategic development and innovation projects, including advancements related to the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park. The meeting also reviewed approval for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Sinology Center, formally executed in Beijing, to support the establishment of a research facility at Bahria University Lahore Campus.

Expressing confidence in the university’s leadership, the Chairman said Bahria University is well positioned to make further progress through the introduction of quality-focused initiatives aligned with emerging academic and research priorities. He also stressed the importance of character building through moral values, civic responsibility and personal development (Tarbiyyat), which he said remains central to the university’s philosophy of holistic education.

The meeting was attended by members of the Board, including Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral Abid Hameed, senior faculty members, the Vice Chancellor, senior naval and civil officials, and representatives of the university’s top management.
