ISLAMABAD, October 9: The Young Journalists Association (YJA) has decided to take practical steps to empower young journalists professionally, provide media consultancy services to private organisations and create new employment opportunities for its members.
As an initial step, the association will select 10 members based on their educational qualifications, professional experience and relevant skills. A private firm will be assigned responsibility for the initiative, while the process of collecting information from prospective team members has begun.
The decision was taken during an important meeting of the Young Journalists Association held at its central office in Islamabad under the chairmanship of President Muhammad Yousaf Khan.

The meeting discussed various aspects of young journalists’ professional development, capacity-building in line with modern media requirements and the promotion of economic independence within the journalism profession.

Participants agreed that young journalists should be encouraged to explore opportunities beyond traditional journalism and develop expertise in other areas of the media industry. The association plans to identify members capable of working in media consultancy and establish professional links with private organisations and firms according to their qualifications, experience and relevant skills.
During the initial phase, the first 10 members will be included in the programme and prepared to provide media consultancy services in their respective areas of expertise. A private firm will be entrusted with responsibilities related to the initiative.
Participants also emphasised the importance of technical and professional training to help young journalists meet the evolving demands of modern media, communication strategies, institutional relations and professional service delivery.
The initiative aims to help members strengthen their existing skills, gain experience in new fields and present their professional services more effectively. The association also intends to expand cooperation with the private sector to create practical work opportunities alongside technical and professional training.
Speaking at the meeting, YJA President Muhammad Yousaf Khan said creating opportunities in modern media sectors alongside traditional journalistic activities was essential for the professional growth and economic stability of young journalists.
He said the association would utilise the qualifications and experience of its members to promote initiatives that provide practical experience, professional training and improved employment prospects.
Khan added that the association would continue working to enhance young journalists’ capabilities, equip them to meet modern industry requirements and strengthen their participation in the media sector.
The meeting reaffirmed the association’s commitment to implementing its professional development and empowerment plans in phases.
