Local leaders criticize petrol price hike before Eid, urge government to review decision

TAXILA — Local political leaders in Taxila have criticized the recent increase in petroleum prices, calling the decision burdensome for the public and urging the government to reconsider the move ahead of Eid.

Speaking to reporters, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Malik Fahad Masood said the petrol price hike has added to the economic difficulties faced by citizens, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He said the increase has placed additional pressure on households already dealing with rising living costs.

Masood said that in a developing country like Pakistan, such a price increase before Eid has intensified financial challenges for many families. He urged the government to focus on providing relief to the public rather than increasing fuel costs.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Taxila President Malik Asif Mahmood also criticized the decision, saying the increase would affect daily commuters, transporters and low-income households.

He said higher fuel prices often lead to increased transport fares and higher prices of essential goods, which can further affect people already facing economic challenges.

Mahmood called on political parties to work collectively to address economic issues and review decisions that directly affect the public.

Local leaders said the increase in fuel prices during Ramadan has caused concern among citizens and urged authorities to consider measures that could ease the financial burden on the public.
