Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Convenes with Ulema to Discuss National Security and Peace

On March 19, 2026, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CDF), met with Ulema of the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi. The discussion focused on critical national security issues and the role of Ulema in fostering societal peace and unity.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted the significant role of Ulema in combating sectarianism, misinformation, and external attempts to destabilize Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan will not tolerate the use of Afghan soil for carrying out terrorist activities against its people. Referring to Operation Ghazab lil Haq, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to conduct targeted, intelligence-based operations to eliminate terrorists and their infrastructure wherever they operate.

The Field Marshal also discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in pursuing regional peace and de-escalation. He emphasized that religious leaders must unite to counter extremism, asserting that religious sentiments should never be manipulated to justify violence. He strongly stated that violence rooted in incidents occurring in foreign countries would not be tolerated within Pakistan.

The Ulema present at the meeting expressed their support for peace and stability and condemned violence in the name of religion. They expressed their commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security across the country.
