SWAT: A 51-year-old resident of Kozkalay Madyan in Swat has claimed that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) mistakenly declared him deceased in official records, preventing him from renewing his national identity card and affecting his livelihood.
Fazal Rahman said the issue surfaced in 2022 when he applied for renewal of his expired Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) at the NADRA office in Madyan. He was later informed by phone that his application could not be processed because NADRA’s system showed him as dead.
According to Rahman, a death certificate had also been issued in his name from the NADRA office in Tehkal, Peshawar, despite the fact that he is alive and residing with his family in Swat.

He said he previously worked as a driver in Lahore and relied on his CNIC for employment and travel. Without a valid identity card, he is unable to travel outside Swat or secure work, which he says has placed financial strain on his household.
Rahman described the situation as an administrative error that has left him unable to complete official documentation or access essential services. He also expressed concern that the issue could affect his children’s future if not resolved promptly.
He has appealed to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to order an inquiry into the matter, restore his identity status in official records, and ensure accountability if negligence is established.
