MARDAN — The Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) collected 49,537 tons of solid waste from 14 union councils, desilted 653 kilometers of drains, and installed 290 manhole covers across the city during 2025, according to a performance review shared at a special board meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Engineer Adil Nawaz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, was briefed by Chief Executive Officer Shahid Khan, who reported that 8,075 tons of silt were removed from drains and 365 tons of waste were converted into 46 tons of organic compost. In two union councils, 51 tons of waste were collected through door‑to‑door services and disposed of safely.

Citizens lodged 7,335 complaints during the year, of which 7,305 were resolved. These included 3,128 related to solid waste, 3,119 to drain desilting, 856 to water supply, and 222 to fumigation. WSSCM staff also supplied 787 million gallons of clean drinking water to consumers, while measures to reduce electricity costs saved 1.5 million rupees per month.

Out of the city’s 159 kilometers of pipeline, 716 meters were replaced, with routine maintenance continuing daily to ensure safe water supply. Development projects worth 8 million rupees were completed under the Annual Development Program, while non‑ADP schemes accounted for 17.5 million rupees.

The company also represented Pakistan internationally, with Nawaz, Khan, and Senior Manager Imran Zaman attending a congress in Germany under the European Union Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance.

Financially, WSSCM recovered 18.3 million rupees from consumers, reflecting a 24 percent increase compared to the previous year. Agreements with 233 commercial entities for waste collection generated annual revenue of 331,000 rupees.

For public awareness, 49 sessions were held with students and community members, while 66 programs were organized in mosques on Fridays to encourage positive behavioral change among citizens.
