Opposition parties in Lower Dir oppose proposed transfer of DPO Taimur Khan

HABIB MUHAMMAD KHATTAK:

LOWER DIR: Representatives of several opposition political parties, social groups and business organisations in Lower Dir have opposed the proposed transfer of District Police Officer (DPO) Taimur Khan, urging authorities to reconsider the move.

The stance was announced after a joint meeting held under the auspices of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), followed by a press conference in which participants rejected reports of the possible transfer. Speakers said the issue was significant for maintaining law and order in the district.

Leaders who addressed the press conference included JUI District Ameer Sirajuddin, Awami National Party President Haji Bahadur Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Asadullah, Pakistan Peoples Party President Nawabzada Ahmed Zeb Khan, Chamber of Commerce President Noor Alam Khan, and representatives of other political and business bodies.

The speakers said DPO Taimur Khan had taken steps to improve policing in the district, including action against narcotics, measures against usury and underpayment, and efforts to address encroachments. They added that his tenure had contributed to what they described as improved law and order conditions.

Some leaders alleged that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was seeking the transfer through political influence. PTI has not issued an immediate response to the claims.

Participants said that if the transfer proceeds, they would consider launching joint protests. They called on authorities to allow the DPO to continue his duties to maintain stability in the district.

No official notification regarding the transfer has been issued so far.
