Police constable shot dead in Mardan, funeral held with state honours

MARDAN: A police constable was shot dead by unidentified assailants while on mosque security duty at Chatto Chowk in Mardan, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The incident has prompted an investigation, with senior officers vowing to arrest those responsible.

According to police, Constable Tawab Khan was on duty when unknown attackers opened fire, killing him at the scene. Senior police officials reached the site shortly after the attack and launched a formal inquiry.

Authorities said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspects. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The funeral prayers of the slain constable were offered with full state honours at Police Line Mardan. He was laid to rest after being saluted by a police contingent.

Among those in attendance were Additional IG CTD Jawad Qamar (Sitara-e-Shujaat), RPO Mardan Rab Nawaz Khan, Deputy Commissioner Mardan Wasif-ur-Rehman, DPO Mardan Masood Ahmed, SP CTD Ijaz Abazai, MPA Tariq Aryani, civil and military officials, religious scholars, local elders and a large number of police personnel.

Officials paid tribute to the constable’s service and said that action would be taken against those involved in the attack in accordance with the law.
