Pakistan and US Hold Joint Counterterrorism Drill at NCTC Pabbi

RAWALPINDI, Jan 10, 2026: Pakistan and the United States have launched the 13th edition of their bilateral military exercise, Inspired Gambit–2026, aimed at improving coordination and operational effectiveness in counterterrorism missions.

The exercise began on January 9 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pabbi and brings together trained contingents from the Pakistan Army and the United States Army, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Enhancing Operational Readiness

Inspired Gambit–2026 is focused on the counterterrorism domain, with participants engaging in joint training designed to exchange operational knowledge and enhance interoperability. The exercise includes drills related to urban combat, precision shooting, and coordinated response tactics, reflecting the evolving nature of security threats.

Both sides are also working to better understand each other’s command structures, operational doctrines, and standard operating procedures, enabling smoother cooperation during joint or parallel missions.

Continued Defence Engagement

Officials from Pakistan and the United States attended the opening ceremony, reaffirming the importance of sustained military collaboration. ISPR noted that such engagements contribute significantly to maintaining high professional standards and improving preparedness against terrorism-related challenges.

Shared Security Objectives

The joint exercise highlights the ongoing defence relationship between Pakistan and the United States and underscores their shared commitment to regional peace and stability through collaborative counterterrorism efforts.

Inspired Gambit–2026 will continue over the next two weeks, featuring practical field training and scenario-based exercise.
