KARACHI: In a swift humanitarian mission, the Pakistan Navy rescued 18 sailors from the merchant vessel MV Gold Autumn following a distress call from the North Arabian Sea. The operation underscores Pakistan’s commitment to maritime safety and its role as a first responder to emergencies within its maritime domain.
The incident occurred approximately 200 nautical miles (about 370 kilometers) off Pakistan’s coastline. The rescued crew comprised nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, reflecting the international nature of maritime operations in the region.
Upon receiving the emergency alert, the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) to coordinate the response. The nearby PNS Hunain was immediately dispatched to assist the distressed vessel.
Rescue teams aboard the ship provided essential medical treatment, supported firefighting operations, and assessed the vessel’s condition before evacuating the crew. The survivors were subsequently transported to Karachi, where arrangements were made for their medical care and repatriation.
According to the Pakistan Navy, the successful mission reflects the navy’s professionalism, operational expertise, and dedication to humanitarian assistance at sea. The operation also highlights effective coordination among maritime agencies to ensure the safety of life in international waters.
