ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Navy has initiated Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to ensure the safety of maritime trade routes and protect the country’s energy supply lines amid evolving regional maritime security concerns.
According to an official statement issued on Monday, the operation focuses on securing Pakistan’s Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), which are vital for the country’s economic activity and energy imports.
Officials said the Pakistan Navy is conducting escort operations for merchant vessels in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC). The measures are aimed at ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of commercial ships operating in regional waters.
Authorities noted that nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s international trade is carried through sea routes, making maritime security critical for maintaining the country’s supply chains and economic stability.
As part of the operation, Pakistan Navy ships are currently escorting two merchant vessels. One of the ships is expected to arrive at Karachi port later on Monday.
The navy said it is closely monitoring the regional maritime environment and maintaining surveillance of merchant vessel movements to prevent any disruption to shipping activities.
Officials added that the Pakistan Navy remains prepared to respond to emerging maritime security challenges while continuing efforts to maintain safe navigation and protect national shipping interests.
