THATTA/SUJAWAL: High-velocity winds along with heavy rain and lightning battered different parts of districts Thatta and Sujawal on Wednesday, bringing civic life to a standstill in the twin districts. Gusty winds started blowing in Sujawal at around 10:30 PM, intensifying and transforming into a thunderstorm, followed by moderate to heavy rain.
As per information gathered from reliable sources, a man was killed while as many as 25 people sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Sujawal and Thatta districts. Trees, roofs, straw-made houses, and electricity poles were blown away in the wake of the blustery winds.
A man identified as Jaffar Malah, a resident of village Ghulam Malah of Taluka Jati of district Sujawal, was killed when a portion of the roof of his house fell on him. He was rushed to Taluka Hospital Jati, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The rain has also affected wheat harvesting in both districts, inundating standing wheat crops. The power supply remained suspended, and the weather remained cloudy across the districts till the filing of this report.
