Four Bajaur police personnel laid to rest with state honours after militant ambush

Bajaur: Funeral prayers were held with full state honours on Tuesday for four police officials who were killed in a militant attack in Bajaur district. The ceremony took place at Police Lines Bajaur and was attended by senior administration officials, security officers, tribal elders and residents.

The deceased officers — Constable Yar Zada, Constable Dawood Khan, Constable Imran and Constable Siraj — lost their lives when their Ababeel Squad vehicle came under attack near Nawey Kalay shortly before iftar during Ramadan. The incident has led to increased security and an ongoing search operation in the area.

A police contingent presented a guard of honour at the funeral, while officials placed wreaths on the coffins. Special prayers were offered for the departed personnel. The ceremony was attended by Commandant Bajaur Scouts, District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur Muhammad Khalid, the Deputy Commissioner, SP Investigation and other senior officers.

After the funeral prayers, the bodies were transported under official escort to their respective hometowns for burial.

According to a Bajaur Police spokesperson, the Ababeel Squad had been deployed on routine patrol duty to ensure public safety in markets and along main roads during Ramadan when unidentified assailants launched the attack.

Two other officers, Irshad Khan and Aziz ur Rehman, sustained injuries and were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for treatment. Hospital sources said both are receiving medical care.

Police stated that additional forces were dispatched to the site immediately after the attack. A search-and-clearance operation is underway in surrounding localities to apprehend those responsible.

DPO Muhammad Khalid termed the attack an act of violence against law enforcement personnel and said efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Authorities have heightened security measures across Bajaur district following the incident.
