Upper Dir: The 18th death anniversary of former prime minister and chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Benazir Bhutto, was observed with reverence in Dir city and other parts of Upper Dir on Thursday.
Commemorative ceremonies were held in Dir, Wadi, Brawal, and Sheringal. The main gathering took place at Sherqi Road, Dir Bazaar, and was led by Arifullah, District President of the PPP Upper Dir. A large number of party workers and supporters attended the central event.
PPP Leaders Recall Benazir Bhutto’s Political Struggle
Addressing the gathering, speakers including Arifullah, Israr Yousafzai, and Javed Iqbal (Advocate) highlighted the political struggle and sacrifices of Benazir Bhutto for democracy and the people of Pakistan.
They said that Benazir Bhutto remained committed to democratic values throughout her political career and continued her struggle despite repeated challenges.
Speakers Highlight PPP’s Role in Development
The speakers stated that the Pakistan People’s Party would continue its struggle against oppression. They also expressed confidence that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would lead the party in the future.
Arifullah said that several development projects in Dir, including a university, colleges, electricity infrastructure, and road networks, were completed during PPP governments. He added that the people of the area continue to support the party.
