Abbottabad: Pakistan Press Council Chairman Arshad Khan Jadoon, during his visit to the Abbottabad Press Club, discussed in detail the problems faced by journalists and the facilities being provided by the federation. He assured that all possible support would be extended to the journalist community. He said Abbottabad is a peaceful city, and its journalists have a distinct identity due to their skills, professionalism, and strong character.
Pakistan Press Council chairman stresses importance of print media
Speaking at the Press Club, the Chairman said that despite the rise of social media, the importance and influence of print media cannot be ignored. He added that the issue of providing facilities to journalists at the federal level would be taken forward through joint efforts, and the recommendations of the Abbottabad Press Club would be conveyed to the relevant forums.
Training and education initiatives highlighted
Pakistan Press Council Chairman Arshad Khan Jadoon said that workshops have been organized for university students across the country to support journalism education and practical training, and students of Hazara University will also benefit from this initiative. He added that a proposal has been shared with the Prime Minister to establish a dedicated university for media education at the government level.
Strengthening ties between journalists and institutions
He said the media and judiciary play a fundamental role in guiding society. Wherever needed, the Pakistan Press Council will remain engaged with journalists and will not disappoint them.
Abbottabad journalists praised for professionalism
Earlier, President Press Club Sardar Naveed Alam, Central Assistant Secretary General PFUJ Muhammad Shahid Chaudhry, former President Sardar Shafiq Ahmed, and President Union of Journalists Atif Qayyum emphasized the need to enhance journalists’ capacity, provide national-level opportunities, and ensure continuity of training programs.
Sardar Naveed Alam said that Abbottabad journalists are in no way behind journalists of major cities. Despite challenges, they have earned recognition at regional and national levels through hard work, efficiency, and professional standards. However, he noted that Abbottabad journalists have long lacked the federal-level patronage they deserve.
Call for greater federal support for Abbottabad journalists
He said the provincial government has always cooperated, enabling more than 30 journalists to perform Umrah through grants, while many others have received motorbikes, laptops, and state life insurance. Regular elections are held annually to elect officials, and Abbottabad journalists have also secured prominent positions in national-level competitions.
At the end of the ceremony, the Abbottabad Press Club requested the Pakistan Press Council Chairman to provide more opportunities for journalists at the federal level so local journalists can receive full representation in the national mainstream.
