The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rainfall in Shangla and other upper northern areas from today until February 3, with chances of light snowfall over mountainous regions.
According to the Met Office, a newly developing weather system is expected to be weak in intensity. However, after four consecutive days of severe dry cold, intermittent spells of rain and snowfall are likely to further intensify cold conditions across the region. Officials said a noticeable drop in temperature is expected, increasing the severity of the ongoing cold spell.
Health advisories issued amid cold wave
In view of the weather outlook, medical experts have issued precautionary advisories, urging residents to adopt safety measures during rainfall and snowfall. Health professionals advised that children and elderly individuals should avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, particularly during wet and cold conditions, and that non-essential travel should be minimized.
Doctors emphasized that children should be kept warmly dressed and discouraged from going outdoors during early morning and evening hours, when temperatures are lowest. Elderly citizens were also advised to remain indoors during the coldest parts of the day and keep themselves adequately warm, as severe cold increases the risk of pneumonia, influenza, colds, and other seasonal illnesses.
Health authorities appealed to the public to strictly follow precautionary measures and take special care of vulnerable family members to prevent weather-related health complications during the ongoing cold spell.
