MARDAN — Health authorities in Mardan organized an awareness walk to mark World Malaria Day, aiming to promote preventive measures and early diagnosis of malaria, a disease that remains a public health concern in Pakistan.
The event, held at the District Health Office, brought together health officials, medical staff, and community members to raise awareness about the risks of malaria and the importance of timely treatment.
Public awareness and participation
The walk was attended by district health officials, including Dr. Sabaoon Khan, Dr. Farhan Akram, Mansoor Khan, Muhammad Afzal, and Hazrat Hussain, along with healthcare workers and local residents.
Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve public understanding of malaria prevention through community engagement.
Prevention and health measures
Muhammad Arif Jan, District Coordinator Malaria Programme, said malaria continues to affect millions globally and remains a concern in Pakistan. He noted that the disease can be controlled through precautionary measures, early diagnosis, and increased public awareness.
He added that awareness campaigns, seminars, and training sessions are being conducted across Mardan in schools, colleges, and health centres with support from Lady Health Workers and medical staff.
Access to treatment
Health authorities said 113 centres have been established across the district to provide free testing and treatment for malaria. These facilities are aimed at ensuring early detection and reducing the spread of the disease.
Officials urged residents to adopt preventive practices and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
