Pakistan Navy chief holds talks in Malaysia to expand maritime cooperation

Islamabad, Feb 8, 2026 — Admiral Naveed Ashraf paid an official visit to Malaysia, where he met senior leadership of the Royal Malaysian Navy to discuss bilateral naval cooperation and regional maritime security, according to an official statement.

The visit began at Royal Malaysian Navy Headquarters, where Admiral Naveed Ashraf was received by the Malaysian navy chief, Admiral Tan Sri (Dr.) Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, and was accorded a guard of honour. The discussions addressed shared security concerns and the need for closer coordination amid evolving challenges in the maritime domain.

Officials said both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and explored ways to enhance operational collaboration, professional exchanges, and capacity building. Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted Pakistan Navy’s contribution to regional stability through regular maritime security patrols and its participation in multinational naval initiatives.

During the visit, the Chief of the Naval Staff also called at Malaysia’s National Hydrographic Centre and was briefed on its role in supporting maritime safety and navigation. He emphasized the importance of hydrographic cooperation and encouraged stronger institutional links with Pakistan’s National Hydrographic Office in areas such as training and data sharing.

The visit reflects the long-standing defence relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia and ongoing efforts by both navies to strengthen cooperation in response to contemporary maritime security needs.
