SHANGLA: A welfare platform for residents of Shangla working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been formally activated, marking the first organized committee of its kind for the district. The initiative, led by social activist and Patron-in-Chief of Jundon Foundation Niaz Muhammad Khan, aims to provide structured and transparent support for overseas Pakistanis from Shangla.
The committee currently has around 1,200 registered members, all originally from Shangla and employed in the UAE. Officials said the platform is designed to ensure dignified assistance in times of hardship, including covering the costs of repatriating deceased members and providing financial support to their families.
Support system for overseas Pakistanis
Committee leaders noted that the initiative addresses a long-standing gap, as Shangla previously lacked a formal welfare committee at the district level. They emphasized that the system offers members a sense of belonging and collective security, especially for those who may face vulnerability abroad.
A central committee of about 50 representatives from each tehsil of Shangla has been formed to oversee operations. Officials said this is the first time Shangla residents abroad have been brought together on such a large scale, reflecting unity and cooperation.
Expansion and transparency
The committee has encouraged new arrivals in the UAE, whether on visit or work visas, to register. Leadership also appealed to Shangla residents in Saudi Arabia to establish similar welfare committees, given the large number of expatriates living there.
Officials stressed that while the hope is for all members to return home safely, a dignified support system is essential due to life’s unpredictability. The committee operates under a clear constitution, rules, and regulations, distinguishing it from other welfare organizations.
Registration is currently closed but may reopen for a limited period in future sessions following consultation.
