SHANGLA: Deputy Commissioner Shangla Muhammad Abdullah Shah distributed wheelchairs and sewing machines among persons with disabilities during a ceremony on Thursday, marking a step toward improving mobility and economic independence for special persons in the district.
The event, attended by beneficiaries, family members, social workers, and district administration officials, aimed to support individuals with disabilities through assistive devices and livelihood tools. Officials said the initiative reflects the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s commitment to enabling independent living and ensuring dignity for differently-abled citizens.
Speaking at the ceremony, the deputy commissioner praised the resilience of persons with disabilities and said they represent an active and capable segment of society. He noted that the provision of wheelchairs would ease mobility, while sewing machines would create income-generating opportunities, helping families achieve self-reliance.
He assured participants that similar welfare programmes would be expanded to provide sustained support. Beneficiaries and their families welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Social welfare representatives also highlighted the importance of extending such measures to remote areas of Shangla, along with stipends and additional facilities, to improve quality of life for persons with disabilities.
