SWAT: The University of Agriculture Swat and the University of the Punjab have agreed to strengthen cooperation in higher education through joint academic initiatives aimed at promoting inter-provincial harmony and national cohesion.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held at the University of the Punjab’s main campus, attended by Prof. Dr. Dawood Jan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Swat, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab. The discussion focused on collaboration in teaching, research, and faculty development, with particular emphasis on aligning universities across provinces.
The meeting formed part of a week-long official visit to Punjab by Prof. Dr. Dawood Jan, during which he also engaged with several other higher education institutions. During the tour, memorandums of understanding were signed with Ghazi University and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, while arrangements for a Faculty Exchange Program were finalized with Mian Nawaz Sharif University Multan.
According to officials, the Faculty Exchange Program is a central component of the University of Agriculture Swat’s strategy to enhance academic cooperation nationwide. The initiative is designed to promote knowledge sharing, professional development, collaborative research, and shared use of academic and laboratory facilities. The first batch of faculty members under the program is scheduled to be deputed from February 2, 2026.
The program covers key areas including agriculture, plant protection, climate-smart farming, food security, and allied disciplines. Activities under the framework include joint research publications, guest lectures, joint supervision, academic training, and the organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences. The initiative is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
University officials said the program was approved by the statutory bodies of the University of Agriculture Swat, including its Finance and Planning Committee and Syndicate, in January 2024. Under the approved structure, faculty exchanges will take place during summer and winter breaks, with participating faculty treated as being on official duty.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to stronger inter-university linkages, increased academic mobility, and enhanced research capacity, while supporting broader efforts to promote national integration through higher education.
