MARDAN: The Department of Ushr and Zakat on Thursday organised a special ceremony in Mardan to honour members and chairpersons of local Ushr and Zakat committees for their services.
Members of the Provincial Assembly Zahir Shah Toru, Tariq Aryani, Ehtisham Khan and District Chairman Malik Jehanzaib attended the ceremony as chief guests.
Addressing the gathering, MPA Zahir Shah Toru said that under the Jahez Fund, more than Rs400 million had been distributed among 217 deserving girls in Mardan district to facilitate dignified marriages. He added that the verification process of 3,000 widows and orphaned children in the district was underway, noting that cheques had already been distributed to 554 beneficiaries, while the remaining would receive financial assistance soon.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf manifesto focused on merit-based governance, elimination of corruption and the establishment of a just and fair system, adding that party leadership and workers were making continuous efforts to achieve these goals.
Zahir Shah Toru further stated that a large number of people would welcome the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi during his visit to Mardan on January 24. He also mentioned that, as part of the ongoing street movement, a large caravan would depart for Adiala on February 8, and the protest would continue until the release of the party’s founding chairman.
On the occasion, MPA Tariq Aryani said that no sacrifice would be spared for the release of Imran Khan, whom he described as a leader of the Muslim world.
Speaking at the ceremony, District Chairman Malik Jehanzaib said that Zakat funds had been distributed among deserving individuals with complete transparency. He clarified that no parliamentarian from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf made recommendations regarding Zakat distribution, which he said helped Mardan secure first position across the province in transparent utilisation of Zakat funds.
At the conclusion of the event, the chief guests appreciated the services of local Ushr and Zakat committee members and chairpersons, terming their role commendable in ensuring fair and transparent distribution of assistance.
